Letter from the Board President

Dear GlobalSkin Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the GlobalSkin team, I want to extend the warmest season’s greetings to the entire GlobalSkin Community!  

2020 has been an incredibly challenging year and it was certainly not the one that was expected when we rang in the new year in January. Our priorities shifted, our work environments changed, our family lives were affected in so many unexpected ways and sadly, some of us lost family members or friends this year as a result of the pandemic.

GRIDD Delphi Launch

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of GRIDD Phase 3 – Patient Data Verification Delphi (the Delphi). The primary goal of the Delphi is to gather data from 2000 adult dermatology patients representing as many different dermatological diseases as possible from all regions of the globe through two surveys.

Survey #1 is available online NOW in English, French, Spanish, German, Mandarin (simplified Chinese), and Arabic and will be live until the end of January 2021. Participants of Survey #1 will be prompted to take Survey #2 in February.

We need your assistance! GlobalSkin has created a Campaign Toolkit to help Member organizations and other stakeholders spread the word about the Delphi through outreach to their patient communities. The toolkit is also available in the six languages above and can be downloaded here.

GlobalSkin Member Community

The new GlobalSkin Member Impact Fund was created and launched in 2020 to financially assist Member organizations in the planning and implementation of activities supporting their dermatology patient-led initiatives and projects for the period of October 17, 2020 – June 30, 2021.

We are pleased to announce that 24 Member Patient Organizations in 14 different countries were approved for this funding. In 2021, we will report on these initiatives and look forward to sharing Members’ impact stories in our next newsletter.

To celebrate the 2020 milestones of the Atopic Community, we have launched a very special On-Demand Atopic Eczema 2020 Showcase. This event reflects on Member accomplishments including: Community Mobilization Workshops, disease-specific data collection, World Atopic Eczema Day 2020 and the advancement of strategic priorities for this Community.

GlobalSkin has launched the EuropaDERM community initiative, aimed at engaging our patient organization Members in this region.

EuropaDERM will support Members in meaningful ways like building organizational capacity, supporting member recruitment, and advancing advocacy goals. There is also an opportunity to pull all Members’ efforts together and unite our voices in pursuit of recognizing medical dermatology on the European policy agenda.

GlobalSkin has a dedicated Advisor in Brussels to work with this Community.

GlobalSkin has been working closely with the research team from the HeadsUp Group and The Clean Slate Shop to conduct the RareDERM Community Environmental Scan. The first phase of this work, completed over the past couple months, was to conduct interviews and focus groups with Patient Organizations (POs) supporting rare skin disease to determine the commonalities and gaps within the RareDERM space. Thank you to our very dedicated group of Patient Organization leaders who took part in these conversations.

We look forward to sharing the leanings of the  Environmental Scan with the RareDERM Community.

Co-hosted Webinars

GlobalSkin has continued to build on its “COVID-19 Virtual Townhalls” webinar series for Members over the last several months. Since Sept we have partnered with both the EADV and ILDS to co-host two events featuring experts in psychodermatology and dermatology nursing respectively.

COVID Roundtable

GlobalSkin assembled a multi-stakeholder roundtable event in December to explore collaborative priorities in achieving a better coordinated, global leadership agenda to raise the profile of dermatology – now and beyond the current global health crisis. The group was comprised of patient leaders, researchers, clinicians and nurses and examined challenges that affect dermatology in general, and as exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next steps will be to discuss in more detail a shared set of priorities that will lay the foundation for a roadmap towards improved care for patients.

The important work GlobalSkin leads with its patient organizations Members was featured and highlighted over the last several months at many events and congresses hosted by stakeholders and partners in dermatology.
